One more semester...
Hope everyone had a good holiday break. I've only got 2 more classes to take for my GIS Analyst certificate (Intro to Databases and Data Acquisition in GIS), so if all goes well, I should be done with Cy-Fair College for the time being.

So, is everyone holding up ok? Assuming, of course, anybody still checks here, of course. Maybe I could start a community for some of the Cy-Fair College clubs. ;)

Selling your textbooks? DON'T go to Half Price Books!!!
I've been trying to sell back some of my books at bookstores. Out of curiosity, I went to 2 different Half Price Bookstores. Here the deal: the salespeople (who were quite rude to me) at the location at FM 1960 & Steubner Airline were willing to offer me $10.00 for a GIS Raster textbook. I decided to take it to the Half Price Books on FM 529 & Lakeview Haven. They quoted me $7.25 for the same textbook on the same day. What's really sad is I then took it to the Follett's on-campus bookstore and they went by the market value and offered me $20.00 for the textbook, DOUBLE what the 1st Half Price Books were offering. I got the same price at a discount textbook (Pritchard's textbooks) store off campus near Longenbaugh.

So I guess the moral of the story is: Don't go to Half Price Books to sell textbooks. Unless you enjoy being ripped off. I sold my textbook at on-campus Follett's for the $20 they offered. Of course, the textbook was $110 new, but I got it on Amazon.com for 1/2 that much. Not too shabby, I guess.

Oh, and I burned 7 CD's for my biweekly commute to Tomball and North Harris Colleges. Listening to the radio does get old after a few hours.

I'm a maintainer! Yay! I'm going to North Harris College next semester! NOOO!!
Well, another summer has come and gone. I'll try to update this thing every now and again, but now I have 3 classes at North Harris College next semester. Sorry, can't do anything about that. I need these courses for my certificate and Cy-Fair wasn't offering them. Now I have to drive 50 mins to the campus for day and night classes. As opposed to the 5 minute drive to Cy-Fair campus. -_-

Join commcolleges!
I'm trying to unite community college students across the country in one community so we can share advice, give support, and talk about community colleges in general. Please join commcolleges if you'd like!

(My apologies if this is not permitted. Since it's so related to the community's topic, I figured it would be fine.)

all my classes will be at fairbanks center this coming fall semester. it's closer to home, but it's not as nice as the main campus. oh well. i'll save gas money!!!!!

this post was pretty pointless, but we're lacking in activity here. i'll contribute no matter how asinine my ramblings are.

Another semester...
Well, the summer session is upon us. It will be easy for me, only taking one course this summer that's a flex course. We only meet on Monday out of the week. Gives me plenty of time to try and find a decent job.

Next semester's gonna be iffy. I might end up going to North Harris (ugh) if the classes I want aren't offered.

A new member has joined the club!
Hello all, I attend Cy-Fair College as well as a part-timer at night. Wow, the semester just flew by. I have a cartography project that's due in 2 weeks, and I haven't done anything on it. >_<

Plan on being here for a while. Working towards a certification (and AAS degree later) in Geographic Information Systems (digital mapmaking in layman's terms). Nice to meet you all (3 of us, that is). :)

My wife teaches at CFC. She enjoys it, but wishes the students took it more seriously and worked harder. They come in, expecting it to be easy, just like high school, and it's not. It's really college! She has to hand a large percentage of them their asses on a platter, a bunch of her students getting Ds and Fs.

I enjoy riding my bike around campus. Our family has launched model rockets from the parking lots on the weekends. The public library is really great. We've been to the film series. Overall, a great addition to the otherwise soul-less and culture-less Cy-Fair area.
